My Thought on Voodoo from roots & Oppressed Spirit in the Diaspora
Voodoo in Haiti is not 100% what it is from the roots of Africa. Many children in the Diaspora are into evil and wickedness yet they label it Voodoo. Historically speaking, our oppressors did teach us that voodoo is evil and that their “Christian” way of worshiping is good- but today if we try (just a little bit) to reason, and if we ask for guidance in understanding buried lies, we will begin to see the difference between man made religion and the connection of balanced spirituality from the source. We will begin to see witchcraft or evil veiled tightly under a spiritual garment of balanced voodoo.
In Dahomie's (Now Republic of Benin-West Africa) FON, voodoo means SPIRITS not religion, not vague words and not scenes to please or to entertain on a stage. Let's take the folkoric shows for a minute. We dress up, get on the stage, we dance beautifully, the drummers marrinate their soul in the rhtym to please the audience but where is the reality of voodoo in all this? These shows are entertaining but what is next? People often forget what they saw or what they heard. Besides, the entertainers don't really have time to explain to the audience the significance of everything involved in the voodoo tradition ...and better yet, there are many entertainers who have no clue about the depth of the Yoruba/fon/bariba words that they are singing. Many don’t care to know the reason and the symbols in it, there just want to play the part. They just want to smile before the flash.
Our history is not for show. It is a tool in which knowledge can be passed down in order for our young people to be fed from the source and understand where they come from. I say this again and again; voodoo is not the reason for Haiti's failure because many who claim that they are practicing voodoo don't even know what it is. Just like in "Christianity" many so-called “Christians” don’t even know nor practice the principals behind true Christianity, which did not even start from the west… yet, they call themselves “Christians” and owned slaves under that label. What a pity! These pretenders are just as wicked and using evil to oppress others. Yet how come their land still grow (materialistically)? Thus I feel it is just to ask this question, it is because of greed, oppression and evil veiled under the title of Christianity that the west is advancing drastically? (Think about that for a while)
I think it is crucial for us to know the difference between the robotic praise of any so-called religion and the consumption of balanced spirits. No matter what religion one is into- if he or she is not centered into the balanced spirit, the source of life, then there is no spiritual progress. Black people need to stop tricking themselves into believing something that is not. We need to take a look of ourselves and admit that we too have the power to REJECT ignorance. We must question things and seek spiritual balance to understand. That's why some of our ancestors called themselves ENSLAVED but not a slave because NO MAN could have chained their spirit...ONLY THE FLESH. I pray that we invest the time to free ourselves, to free our mind and to free our spirit.
Our country/land/soul can't prosper if our spirit is chained. In 1804, Haiti removed the chained from the flesh but now we must have a spiritual revolution to remove the chain from the spirit because if that chain remains around our spirit, we shall continue to destroy one another. Today, we are wearing our oppressor’s soul and the worse is yet to come….
